The Light
Move the light across the panel. Swirls are a halo around the light, not a texture on the paint, which is exactly why yours look fine in the garage.
Correction stage
One control. Everything in the lab responds to it.
Swirls, etching and wash marks. This is where most cars start, and in flat light you will not see any of it.
A single cut and finish stage. Light swirling lifts out, depth comes back and the reflection tightens.
Cut, then refine. The swirls read like they were never in the paint. This is the level most cars over a few years old actually need.
Show quality. As far as paint goes, and only worth it when the finish is the point.
The Gauge
What a machine actually removes, and what is left underneath.
What you are looking at. A magnified slice through your paint, edge on. Modern factory paint is four layers, and only the top one is ours to work with.
- Clear coat. The transparent layer that carries the gloss. Every scratch you can see lives in here, and it is the only thing correction touches.
- Base colour. The actual colour. If a machine reaches this, the panel needs a body shop, not a detailer.
- Primer and panel. Underneath, and not our business.
The notches in the clear coat are the swirls. Correction does not fill them, it lowers the surface around them until they are gone, which is why every stage costs you a few microns and why we measure before we start.

What is paint correction and do I need it?
Paint correction is machine polishing that removes the damaged top layer of your clear coat, which takes swirls, etching and wash marks out of the paint rather than filling them in. It starts at $549, quoted to your paint after a free assessment. You need it before a coating, because a ceramic is transparent and durable, so coating swirled paint seals the swirls in for years.
Do you still do regular auto detailing?
Yes. Interior detailing, exterior detailing, complete packages and coating maintenance are all priced on this page, starting at $149. Detailing is how most people meet the studio. Ceramic coating and paint correction are what we are known for.
How long does a ceramic coating take?
A paint correction and ceramic coating takes two to three days in the studio. A one step correction is about a day, a full interior detail is five to seven hours, and short work like an express interior or a wash and wax is around two hours. Only one job starts a day, so nothing gets rushed and your car is never parked outside waiting its turn.

We coat with Gtechniq. Every coating we sell includes the paint correction prep, the warranty and the first year of ceramic coating maintenance.

Does a South Dakota winter change what your paint needs?
